The Perfect Tea Mug

We had one tea mug left that was perfect, but it broke a while ago, and I am fed up with all the other mugs we have that aren't perfect. Unfortunately, the maker's mark disappeared from the bottom of the mug, and I can't find a similar one in dozens of image searches.

It's stoneware. It's white inside, and blue or green outside (we had one of each, there may be other colours). It's almost spherical in gross shape, with a belled drinking rim with a very soft curve leading to a modest sized surface area. The small opening and large volume means the liquid stays hot longer. There's a separate round foot under the bowl of the mug, with a cavity underneath. There's a handle, stylishly curved, with a little thumb knob at the top and a pinky bumper at the bottom. Factory made for sure by it's consistent shape and how the mugs we had were essentially identical. The ones we had were purchased at least 20 years ago, and probably longer. In short, the perfect mug. Any ideas?

Best answer: Are belly mugs similar to your mugs?

Response by poster: Belly mug was the search term I was missing, thank you!

I found them with that search term on replacements.com and tracked them to the manufacturer's site: Denby Craftsman Mug

Wow, I was sitting here with my tea mug beside me thinking "dang, that sure sounds a lot like my mugs, but nah, unlikely." But it's mine! Well, mine is the Denby Imperial Blue Craftsman Mug.

You know what else is perfect from Denby? Their coupe plates (as long as you're Denby shopping). They have a perfect sort of high rim, so if you have anything with gravy or anything sloshy or slippery at all on your plate, you can carry it without stuff slopping over the edge. We have full size and saucer (salad plate?) size, and we lurrve them.

If hotter longer is your goal, might consider phase-change mugs. I've got a Burnout 2.0 that I love.

Similarly for the heat retention, Edgecomb Potters whale tail mugs have a conical shape that keeps hot drinks warm for longer.
