Is Clue Menopause worth the subscription?

I just learned that Clue has a new perimenopause setting, available to paid subscribers. I am in perimenopause and my periods have suddenly become wildly unpredictable, so I’m pretty interested in Clue Menopause. However, before I fork out the money, I’d like to hear from anyone who has tried it. Is it worth paying for?

I have used the free version of the Clue app for several years to track my periods. I like it fine. I’ve been in perimenopause for the whole time I’ve used it, and while my cycles have been annoyingly short and distressingly heavy, they’ve also been pretty regular and easy to track. That changed suddenly a couple of months ago and now they are wildly unpredictable and the original Clue app can’t really handle it.

I’d like to stay with Clue since I have already had to switch from a period tracker I really liked (Planned Parenthood Spot On) when it was discontinued in Canada, grrr. I do not want to switch to yet another one. Transferring my data manually from Spot On was a pain in the ass, but it was valuable so I did it. I REALLY don’t want to do it again unless you are going to recommend the most amazing free, user friendly, privacy conscious menopause tracker available in Canada. (Clue is not perfect but has fairly strong privacy, enough to satisfy me.)

I’ve looked for reviews online but couldn’t find much because Clue Menopause is still pretty new—looks like it was introduced in September 2023. It is $3.25 CAD per month if you pay yearly and $9.99 if you pay monthly, so basically I’m trying to find out if a yearly subscription is worth it before I commit.

Do you have an Oura ring? The company partnered with Clue:
"Oura members who are new to Clue Plus are eligible to receive three free months of Clue Plus, valid through November 30, 2024. To redeem, go to the Clue sign-in page, create a Clue account or sign in to an existing one, and enter the code CLU-3MO-SUB once signed in."
(*cough* Oura's return policy) (Please check Canadian applicability re: offer and return policy.)

I’m so disappointed that this isn’t the board game! Because I’m imagining a special setting that makes Miss Scarlett’s appearance unpredictable, Dr. Orchid unhelpful, and also maybe you murder everyone

Response by poster: Oh my god, chesty_a_arthur, thank you for the much-needed laugh!

Iris Gambol, unfortunately I don’t have the Oura ring. I didn’t even know what it was until I looked it up just now.

Best answer: I have it and would never pay $10/mo for it but don't regret getting it at a promotional price. It reconfigures the layout of tracking categories to be more relevant- many of them are in basic Clue, some aren't. At some point they limited creation of tags for free users and I like having more flexibility there; reporting/analysis is also better and has a much nicer layout for seeing what symptoms you're experiencing when and how often. I also just don't mind throwing a few bucks to a company whose product I've used for free for many years and would like to keep using. If you are tracking things seriously I would say it's worth it to keep an eye out for the sales they run here and there- they often bring the price way down.

Agree with wormtales - exactly my experience so far.

Response by poster: Thank you wormtales for the detailed description of your personal experience with it (and tip about checking for sales), and to tiny frying pan for the confirmation—I am going to subscribe at the reduced rate. I am trying to track things seriously because I find it helpful, both for myself and to give the info to medical providers—sounds like this will be a useful addition to the app and I’m willing to pay for it.
