Home recording question: what kind of microphone am I looking for?

I'm looking for the ultimate pair of affordable, all-purpose, omnidirectional microphones. I think.

I recently switched up my recording equipment from a Zoom R24 to the Zoom L20 to record demos for bands. So far, so good. However, one thing I miss on the L20 is the onboard stereo microphones on the R24. These were great for capturing general room tone and having another source to add into the mix, especially as they appeared to be omnidirectional.

If I wanted to replicate this functionality with a pair of standalone microphones, what should I get? I've also had experience of using Zoom's H8 recorder, with its excellent onboard mics. In an ideal world I'd like these exact microphones but as individual units that can be set up on a stand and plugged into two of the L20's inputs.

Best answer: Clippy em272 omni mics are highly regarded in the field recording world, are cheap, have low self-noise, and would work great for your stated purpose of recording room tone.
