Sabbatical/Short time abroad

I'm interested in some day living abroad for one month to a year, especially if I do some kind of project where I'm there. I'd like to collect ways that this could potentially be accomplished in this question. I.E. share different programs for teaching abroad, for doing things abroad at ages that are above 30 in jobs that are not necessarily academia.

I work in nonprofits/higher education (but NOT as a professor) generally, doing things with data. I enjoy museums and math education. Right now I'm just trying to figure out what possibilities might be.

Best answer: Have you looked at the Fulbright Specialist program? These are shorter term. They aren't only looking for academics, and the projects are outside of higher ed at times too. Might be a good match for museum and math teaching and data.

The government of Spain has an "Auxiliares de Conversación" placement program for English speaking language assistants up to the age of 60 to come to Spain and work in Spanish schools.

Information for US citizens here. The money isn't great but I believe you can work another part time job while there. There is also a subreddit where you can read about people's experience.

You might consider getting TEFL certified (Teaching English as a Foreign Language.) It can open many doors. I got my cert over the summer through MyTEFL ($150 for the basic course.)

Response by poster: More details I have now thought of:

I also write fiction and do some art so artist's residencies might be a possibility. I do math art sometimes too. I'm a US citizen.

Thanks! These are great so far.

In the UK, there's lots of one year Master's degree programs. If you gave the inclination and can afford it, that might be an option.
