Help me out with this Only Murders plot point, please

I have a spoilery question re: Theo Dimas in the current season of Only Murders in the Building so I'm going to put it under the fold.

In season one, we saw that he was present for Zoe's death. And though he didn't cause it, he didn't speak up about the way it happened, so Tim went to jail for murder. In season two, we saw that he was involved in his dad's years-long scheme to steal valuables from dead people. Shouldn't he...be in jail? Did he go to jail at all? Remind me why Mabel likes him and wants to hang out with him?

And where's Teddy Dimas right now? Jail?

Best answer: I think you are maybe mixing up seasons 1 and 2. Season 1 ends with the truth about Zoe's murder and the dead people jewelry scheme being revealed. Season 2 is the one with Bunny...it's set some time later and Theo and Teddy are out and about and involved in the plot. Season 3 is the new one and I can't speak to it.

I haven't seen any of season 3 but having watched season 2... at one point they show that Theo has an ankle monitor (when he and Mabel go to Coney Island, they have to hang out for an hour while he charges it.) If I recall correctly, they also briefly discuss his legal troubles.

Teddy also mentions legal stuff to Oliver, so it sounds like the case is in progress. Depending on where you are in the series, Teddy and Oliver's relationship is a major plot twist.

Best answer: I don't recall this being mentioned in Season 3, which in progress and takes place a full year after Season 2. Theo got his own representation sometime in Season 2 to separate the case from his father's, I'm guessing either Teddy took on the full blame or Theo was let off lightly by a sympathetic judge.

Oscar was the one who went to jail for Zoe's death. Tim was murdered in Season 1.

Response by poster: Oh jeez I didn't realize quite how confused I was about characters/seasons! Thank you for the updates. I guess the remaining question is why/when did Mabel forgive Theo for not speaking up and sparing Oscar many years in jail? And then even beyond forgiving him, how did they become friends?

Best answer: I was curious myself so I went to go flip through some recaps!

So: In Season 2, Episode 7, Theo steps up a big way to help Mabel in Coney Island. Mabel finds the strength to face her own past trauma regarding her father's death, and in doing so, she's able to forgive Theo and move on.
