Recommendations for indoor Surveillance camera

Do you have a recommendation for a cheap USB/mains powered IP-camera that one could access locally through an iOS app with a video view similar to a face time call overlay or similar (we’d like to use like a baby phone/ to supervise bath time). Is there a camera standard for Wi-Fi enabled local connections?

Not sure I’m following the requirements…. you want the camera itself to have a video display so the person in the bath can see you as well as vice versa?

I have the basic Aqara camera that I got for 50$ and works great with HomeKit and doesn’t require a separate app. I think mine requires a 2.4 wireless network. HomeKit is a whole thing, and the general take is that I mostly trust it, and I binned all the other smart crap. I am not familiar with any other video security service that is affordable and I would use in my bathroom.

HomeKit requires a device to be continuously connected on the local network to function - I’m using an Apple TV, but one of home pod things would also be ideal. You can also just use an iPad as a host.

My setup can easily be brought up on my phone, tv, iPad or laptop, i can tell the dog to stop barking, get alerts, record, and have automations. It’s relatively easy and straightforward and I’ve dropped mine like 10 times on a wood floor.

Response by poster: No display on the camera, just a regular (as local as possible) IP cam that would be accessible through a phone app (where if possible the data stays on the network and doesn’t run through some remote server).

Wyze cameras are pretty simple to mess with, and are as low as $30. They can be pretty easily accessed through any mobile phone with the Wyze app. I have one plugged in 24/7 just to keep track of my front door from the inside. They have optional plans, but that's for people detection and stuff which you don't seem to need.

Alfred camera. Can use old phone. Not sure if it goes through a remote server.
