staying cool in northern Italy in August

I may have to be in the Milan area in August. I suffer badly in the heat. Is there a way to make this work?

I may need to escort someone to Milan, in August, but I don't need to stay in the city after that; I could go somewhere that's within a few hours' travel, ideally by train (only if it's air conditioned) but possibly by car. Is there anywhere within a few hours' train or car travel from Milan that would be reasonably cool in August? Maybe somewhere in the Dolomites? What about like towards Turin or Trieste?

Best answer: If you go up into the Alps you will find cooler places. But you need to go way up. St Moritz might be a thing. I'm a huge fan of Vals, which is cheaper than St. Moritz, but a bit further away and difficult to access by public transportation.

Best answer: You can get from Milano Centrale to Tirano by train (2-3hrs roughly depending); it's gonna be something like ~70F in August, and if you want even cooler you can get a bus to somewhere like Livigno, Bormio or Poschiavo (the latter being in Switzerland, mind).

Best answer: [Ugh, I forgot to mention: check out the excellent Chronotrains for a quickie visualization of how far you can get from any given train station.]
