Too Late for a Hostel - Two Nights in Austin
April 22, 2023 2:00 PM

I extended a work trip to Austin next week by two days, but I waited too long to book a hostel, and now everything looks like it's going to be several hundred dollars a night. Is there anywhere I can stay more cheaply?

I'll be staying in downtown Austin from Wednesday to Friday for work, and the additional nights that I need to find a place to sleep would be Friday through Sunday morning. I will not have access to a car, but am happy to take public transit or rideshare, if needed. I will have one backpack and possibly a carry-on luggage.

I'm currently looking into couchsurfing (the website).
Where else should I be looking? I am hoping to avoid spending $200 / night.

(Is trying to find.. a street or a park or a campground or something a viable option? >.> )

Next week? As in April 28-30? AirBnB shows close to 100 private rooms for rent (and at least one Airstream trailer!) on those dates
below $100 a night. That’s what I would do.

Vrbo's Austin listings, set to 0-$150/night, range from 30 miles outside city center (campsites, RVs) to downtown proper.

Google Travel shows 147 hotels available next week for under $200, and 62 for under $100.

It looks I can find a hotel within a ~30 min walk of downtown for about $230 total for both nights.
Thanks all, I think I was a bit flustered.
