Why won't my projector play a very particular file from a streaming site?
I have one of those cheap LED projectors that I use to watch stuff at home with. I generally watch things via a Firestick plugged into the projector HDMI port. All works as it should.
I have run into an issue where it won't play the sound for episodes streaming on ctv.ca It will play the ads with sound before the episodes, but as soon as the episode content starts, there is no sound. At first, thinking it was a Firestick issue, I tried all the regular things like clearing cache, re-booting, and when I plugged the Firestick into other things (another projector, a TV) the episodes are there with sound, and working properly. So it's something about this no name LED projector.
Have you heard of anything like this and what might be causing this very specific streaming issue? Everything else (netflix, youtube, grey area streaming, etc) all works fine.
(I'm in Canada, so no rights issues with ctv.ca Those of you outside of this country or without a VPN will probably not be able to access these episodes at all)

Yeah I agree, it's probably a combination of the projector not supporting Dolby Audio and the ctv.ca player not configuring the Fire TV correctly (the app should be able to query the downstream device capabilities through the Fire TV stick and either send a stereo stream directly, or set the Fire TV stick to do the decoding and downmixing)

In my experience, that's a common cause of the symptom you described. It's not an issue exclusive to Fire TV Stick devices, but something I've run into on a handful of different projectors with an Apple TV, a Blu-Ray player, etc.
According to a copy of the Fire TV User Guide I found, you should be able to find the setting under Settings -> Display and Sounds -> Dolby Digital Output
