Who will mend my jeans?
April 1, 2023 6:40 PM
My favorite pair of jeans has done the thing they all do eventually, and has given way at the upper thighs. In the past I have tried to do sashiko-style visible mends, but they have not held and have been lumpy and uncomfortable to wear. Who will let me send them this latest pair, repair them in an aesthetically pleasing and sturdy fashion, and send them back to me for a fee?
I feel like this must be a service that exists. My sister would maybe do it for me if I gave her a year and then would make it weird when I tried to pay her appropriately. My own skills are just not up to the job.
I have a new pair of jeans that may, in time, become a favorite. But my beloved pair has lots of life left if I can just reinforce the thighs. Help me?

If you don't find something local to you, this Pennsylvania service might do the trick and takes orders by mail. I have been meaning to send them some things of my own but haven't yet so I can't vouch personally for them.

I used Denim Therapy for years. I don’t wear jeans to work anymore so I haven’t used them in a while, but they were great when I did. I was using them for exactly the same repair. They are NYC based but take mail orders.

I'd call one or two local dry-cleaners, I think they'll mend garments or recommend a colleague to you.

If you want to go local look for a vintage shop that sells denim and ask them who they recommend.

Brought jeans with me transatlantic just to take them to Denim Therapy, who fixed them deliciously. They're almost back in style now too, so I can wear them again!

Thanks for all the suggestions! I looked at all the links and the Old Flame folks seem to be doing what I have in mind. I've emailed them to make sure they'll do it. Much appreciated, everyone.
