ISO: Make a dinosaur movie app -- Google 3D but better

You know how you can google the name of a dinosaur and then make it look like there's a dinosaur in your house? Is there an app that does that but gives you a little more control? In particular I would like to control the size and placement of dinosaurs, what they are doing, and have two dinosaurs in the shot at once. Android.
My 5yo has been making dinosaur movies. Up until now he's been happy to show his hands moving the dinosaur toys around, but now he say T-Rex Ranch (a low-budget show on Netflix and even lower-budget show on Prime somehow) and they show "Real dinosaurs" and they don't show hands moving them and he is frustrated that he can't do that. I showed him the google functions, but they're limited because he can't put the dinos where he wants to on his set, (like often they float in the air instead of going down on the floor) and controlling the size and positioning is either non-existent or finicky to the point where it's basically impossible. Honestly, that T-rex ranch show looks like it was made with something esssentially equivalent to the google thing. Is there an app that does the google thing with a little more control?

There's quite a few people selling AR authoring tools for setting up your stuff to show to people but they're not going to be fun or usable for a kid.
The best app I can find is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.arloopa.arloopa which at least comes with some nice dinosaur models and you can place and rotate them with gestures.
On Android everyone will be using the same google SDK (ARCore) so you will always suffer from the same problems with things not being totally anchored (maybe newer phones with depth sensors are better).
