Looking for recommendations of free or paid iPad apps for educating children.

Duo ABC is well-received, as are some of the early Osmo games. Particularly interested in an early math game / education.

Dragonbox makes excellent apps. (And yes, the algebra app is actually appropriate for 5+.)

MathTango and Teach Your Monster to Read were very popular with our kid.

A few years ago, I asked a question about educational resources for kids and Mefi recommended Epic (a reading program for kids), which has both a web-based and app platform. The kids I worked with loved it - tons of books/activities at different levels and a good amount of interactive content.

Dragonbox. Everything by Humongous Entertainment. They are wonderful for developing listening skills, following directions, and reasoning. Also Zoombinis - problem solving through mathematics, deduction, and hypothesis testing using sorting, grouping, and comparing of information, ordering, linking information, graphing and mapping, organizing, and algebraic thinking. Sounds terribly dry but actually very entertaining and compelling. My kids were obsessed.

Not strictly educational, but we love Pok Pok for our now-four year old. Open ended sandbox game with tons, tons, tons of content that is expensive but worth it.
