the internet of beans

Do you buy dry beans on the internet for delivery to a US address? If so, what's your favorite source? (Quantities of one to five pounds of beans are plenty; I'd prefer to avoid Amazon.)

We have Rancho Gordo beans in the pantry and they seem high quality and well packaged.

We've been getting our dried beans from Findlay's, although in larger quantities.

Yes. I'm a Rancho Gordo Bean Club member (sign up! You'll forget you did until you get an email in 3 years telling you you're off the wait list). Anyway, everything, including the recipes, is amazing. Also, the crimson popping corn, but don't buy it all out or I'll hunt you down. Respectfully.

Best answer: I'm also a Rancho Gordo Bean Club member, and they're great for heirloom beans in small packages.

But I go to Palouse to buy chickpeas in bulk. These are the best chickpeas I've every had. I've also gotten split peas and wheat berries from them, and they sell other beans as well. The only thing I dislike is that some of their beans come in cloth or burlap bags that I don't have a use for but are too nice to throw away.

Kalustyans

Bulk Foods - it sounds like such a generic name for an online shop, but I have been to their physical store in Ohio and can confirm that it exists!

Best answer: Camellia Beans, because red beans and rice only taste right with Louisiana-grown red beans

Another vote for Rancho Gordo. Oh my god the giant limas... the stuff of dreams. This is also what I get everyone for the year end holidays. Beans by mail is by all acoounts so far a cheer-inducing surprise (and their "hot" sauce called La Paloma is delicious and mild enough for people who think black pepper is too spicy, e.g. my parents who otherwise wouldn't buy a "hot" sauce to accompany said beans; their sauces in general are delicious and I'm sad to report hat I've just noticed they're sold out at the moment).

Best answer: Eureka Farms in Maine has some lovely old New England favorites, like Jacob's cattle and Soldier Beans. Buy their maple syrup and make their baked beans!

Another Rancho Gordo bean club member here. You don't have to be a club member to order - they sell the individual packs of beans to the public as well.

Adding the selling points that the beans are MUCH much fresher than what you get in the supermarkets, so they taste better and cook a little faster. Rancho Gordo also specializes in "heirloom" beans - so you don't just get the regular "black beans" or "pinto beans", you get unusual, little-seen beans with lovely names like "Jacob's Cattle", "Snowcap", "Vaquero", and suchlike. They also partner with a couple of small family farms in Mexico to let them continue growing certain types of heirloom beans, by giving them a market here in the US. And they also have some non-bean things like rice, spices, hominy and the like. They also often throw a cute little bonus thing in each package (if you order now you'll get one of their calendars, a wonderfully kitschy thing I use as my calendar in the office at work).

The website is bare bones, but I can recommend Adobe Milling. Dove Creek where they are based, is a tiny town, and they grow a lot of beans. (Can also highly recommend their jalapeno hot sauce, which we buy by the literal gallon in my family.)

My wife gets Rancho Gordo. Historically I don’t even like most beans that much, but they are good enough to make me a bean lover.

Seconding yueliang. I always get Camellia-brand kidney beans when I make Cajun red beans and rice. But I order the beans from Amazon. The Camellia beans are outstanding. I can even eat them plain, with just some salt, pepper, and margarine.

I'm loving all these other bean sources.
Also, buy the crimson popping corn. I didn't realize pop corn could taste different/better. Like the the corn part.
