Mat/pad for home gym?

What are people putting down in home gym/workout spaces?

My wife has a small yoga mat, and just bought a big 6'x10' roll of black floor mat.

The big mat is hard and thin (despite claiming it's 7mm thick), so it's no good for floor exercises, kneeling, etc. On the other hand, when her routine has her going side-to-side, she doesn't step off onto the cement floor.

The little mat (7mm) is too soft and small for exercises that have her moving a lot, but it's great for yoga, stretching, and the like.

Is there a happy medium, or do people have two mats? Is there a brand of those puzzle mats that are different than this roll mat?

I have been using this GoFit Deluxe mat for floor exercises and it has provided very good cushion for my bony knees and hip bones. It is 1/2 inch with one smooth and one slightly ribbed side.

Gym flooring / puzzle mats might be what you’re looking for? I’m in a different country so my links might not be as useful, but I found a bunch by searching “gym puzzle mat”. You can also get puzzle mats for kids playrooms if you want something in brighter (rather than traditional gym) colors.

i am using a baby play mat with an actually chic print on it- looks like a rug, is basically a thick exercise mat. Mine is from ofie by littlebot, but there are a few brands.

I use stall matting from the local feed store. It’s cheep, indestructible, and thick.

Stall matting for sure. Sooo much cheaper than the puzzle mat/things marketed as gym mats. Also thicker which is great (I deadlift on mine no problem). When we moved the floor below the mats looked brand new.

Best answer: Oh, and to....really also answer the question- i do lie down on my yoga mat (on top of the stall matt) for stretching/yoga ect. I also just have a folded towel for exercise/yoga moves that require me to kneel. Its a "yes..and" situation.
