Can I eat it: newly purchases sour cream with cottage cheese texture

I just bought a container of sour cream within the past hour. From refrigerated section if the store. Expires Nov 5. It has a sort of cottage cheese texture. Smells fine, I guess? I'm making onion dip and that's the only way I ever eat sour cream so "does it taste off" is not really a test I can do. Can I eat it?

It was probably too cold at some point and froze

I was just coming in to say the same thing as noloveforned. Unless it obviously smells funky or you can see discoloration I would totally vote to use it.

Response by poster: So I thought of the frozen thing, but pictures of frozen and thawed soured cream look more liquid with grains and less actual lumps...like there are lentil-sized thick lumps.

But anyway, I have figure it out. I decided to go back to the store and get another container (And this time be sure to open it at the cash first to check). Anyway, I thought since one container was possibly bad, I wouldn't get the exact same one. So I saw the one I got and I grabbed another kind and I turned back to look at the one I got and...it says "cottage cheese." Came back home and looked...yep...I bought cottage cheese when I wanted sour cream.

Does anyone know any recipes that can be made with a container of cottage cheese mixed with an envelope of onion soup mix?

blend the cottage cheese up with an immersion blender or food processor until really really smooth, stir in a bit of mayo maybe for richness, and the pack of onion soup mix, it will be a great dip!
