Paper mask of laughing boy?

Do you recognize this flat paper mask of a smiling or laughing boy, with round holes cut out for the eyes?

I know someone who's seeking more information about this flat paper mask of a photorealistic (...or, like a black-and-white photostat or photocopy) boy's face, looking like a kid from the past (e.g. maybe the 1950s):

They said, "This image was a mask that I recall seeing in a book or art exhibit catalog. There was a group of seated people in what looked like a movie theater" and "There was an audience in a theater? & each person was holding a mask of the laughing boy up to their faces."

Does this ring a bell for anyone here?

My initial searches weren't successful, but I'm sure many of you have greater search skills than I. The term "mask" of course brings up a lot of clutter these days...

The only child star I know from that era would be little Ronnie Howard - could it be him? I see *some* similarities.

I have a faint memory of this face on a product, like pancake mix or something.

This is the boy but it doesn't solve the problem of I'm pretty sure the this-face-as-eyeless-mask is familiar to me.

Response by poster: No luck yet on this end either, but I must say, locating the original photo/photoset is amazing, and far more than I've been able to do!
