Good London eats near Knightsbridge Station

Looking for restaurant recommendations in London near the Knightsbridge tube stop and Harrod's.

We will be staying for about 5 days in this area and are looking for Indian, pub food, or any recommended casual dining. Particularly looking for breakfast spots, but interested in any food recommendations for that area of the city.

It's about a 15 minute walk from Knightsbirdge, and not one of the categories of food that you specifically asked about, but I had a great Italian meal at Rocca in South Kensington a few years back. The pasta was particularly good.

You might enjoy Fifth Floor Café, at the top of the Harvey Nichols department store. Very pretty space, fancy food, outdoor terrace if weather permits. Pricey, like everything in the general area, but feels quite special.

Best answer: I would wander away from that immediate area. London has amazing public transport, very walkable, and the food around Knightsbridge and Harrods is not necessarily the best.

About 15 minutes walk away is Soho, which is where many restaurants, bars and cafes cluster. Lots of Indian places — Dishoom, Gopal’s, Gunpowder, Hoppers.

I agree with Moiraine that Soho is a good bet, but you’d need jet propelled shoes to walk there from Harrods in 15 minutes (although it would be an interesting walk). Jump on a no.19 bus, and it will take you about 20 mins, swinging by Hyde Park Corner and Piccadilly as you go.

Walk south to South Kensington Tube station. There’s a little piazza around the station with restaurants and cafés, any of which will serve you a nice meal. The grande dame of the place is the Hungarian restaurant Daquise, but Comptoir du Liban will also do you lovely Lebanese food. The other places are probably great too.

Agree with the South Ken recommendations! And heading into Soho. You can also add Gymkhana to your list of Indian places.

Walk due south to Sloane Square for cafes, you'll find a lot particularly around the Saatchi Gallery. There's a variety of outdoor seating and places. Granger & Co. Chelsea is down that way too if you like Aussie style cafe culture.

Head north into Hyde Park for the Serpentine Bar & Kitchen overlooking the water.

Does the pub food have to be fish and chips? London Pride and a pie will need a Fuller's pub (brewer of London Pride), likely their Pie and Ale House brand. The Churchill, Hereford Arms and Star Tavern are in Kensington. (The pub on Richmond Green in Ted Lasso has a different name but is a Fuller's.)

But Fish and Chips? There will be adequate pub fish and chips but seaside fish is better: it's a little over an hour to Brighton (Sussex) or Margate or Broadstairs (both Kent) or Clacton-on-Sea (Essex).
