"mattress-in-a-box" dimensions

I ordered one of those rolled-up, expandable mattresses (queen) from Amazon, and in its still rolled-up state, it measures 40" wide. Amazon verified that the product sent was a queen size (60"): would you expect that, once unrolled and expanded, it would become 60" wide? If I open and expand it, and it's still too narrow, I will not be able to send it back (cost-prohibitive at best).

I cannot speak to your specific mattress, but I ordered a queen sized mattress in a box several years ago and remember thinking there was no way the damn thing would expand as much as they claimed. It did, and it's a very comfortable mattress.

Depending on the company, you may be able to arrange pickup for donation even after the mattress is unpacked.

The rolled-up mattresses I've purchased from Ikea were all rolled up in such a way that the width of the roll is the width of the mattress when unrolled. However, they were hybrid/spring mattresses, not memory foam mattresses. (Maybe memory foam could be rolled differently/compressed more?)

How much of a hardship would it be for you to order a second one and then return this one if they are visibly different in size (when still rolled up)?

If you ordered from Amazon, does it make sense to ask this specific question on the page for the item? Are there any reviews you can check out?

Response by poster: Well, Amazon won’t send a replacement until they receive the original - good thought though.

I have a queen Keetsa and thought I remembered it being narrow, too — in this video some folks unwrap one and you can see it's folded and then rolled before packing, making the box length much narrower than queen size width.

Response by poster: It does get mostly good reviews, and no one mentions the width issue…and that does make sense, that they would want to put it in a shorter box.

Response by poster: Thanks, each! I took a chance and opened it, and for the record, it is a full 60” wide unrolled.

If I am you I open it and find out. Bet you expands to fit. However, If the product is not what Amazon says it is and they will not pay to return ship it I would file a claim of false advertising with my credit card company. I am 75% certain Amazon will either take it back or GIVE IT TO YOU FREE and I am 22% certain if Amazon does neither of those that your credit card would honor your claim, as it would be quite demonstratable that you would not be getting what was advertised.

I'm glad you resolved the issue! For what it's worth, I wasn't suggesting having Amazon replace it by contacting customer service but literally purchasing a second one, and if they were different when rolled up, opening and keeping the one that was larger. Amazon would not stop you from buying a specific mattress just because you happen to have bought an identical one a few days ago.

As someone who has ordered two mattresses on Amazon in the past two years, I can confirm that they expanded to the promised size and are working great. I am not a finicky mattress person so the Princess and the Pea people may be more discerning; they generally aren't ordering mattress-in-a-box from Amazon though so you're probably more like me. I don't know the brands you got or your personal preferences but I can tell you that you will probably be satisfied and everything will work out!
