Writing Photoshop Actions That Request User Input
April 5, 2006 3:32 PM   RSS feed for this thread Subscribe

I'm creating a series of Photoshop Actions to automate processing images for my blogs. Most of it is resizing images and the like, which is easily done in an action. As part of this, I'd like to open a dialog to ask for a filename, then to save the processed image to a specific directory with that filename. Can that be done in an action, or do I need to write a script to do it?

I'm hoping that I can do it within the action, because writing Photoshop scripts makes my brain hurt, and that's not a good thing.

Not sure what version of Photoshop your using, but next to each step in the action, there is a box that you can check. Checking it puts a little picture of a menu into the box. What that does is tells Photoshop to give you a menu for values rather than automatically using whatever value you used when recording the action.

So, in case that wasn't clear -- record your action, including saving the file. Then check the menu option next to the save action step.

Cool, I shall play around with that. Thanks!
