Hypnosis for anxiety in NYC?

Can you help me find a good hypnotherapist who treats anxiety in NYC?

My elderly mother has been suffering from a great deal of anxiety in the last few years. Various things have been tried, including drugs and therapy, but with very limited success. It has been suggested that hypnotherapy could help, but we don't have the faintest idea of how to find the right practitioner. She lives in Manhattan, UES, but could potentially travel to other boroughs. Does anyone have a recommendation or a suggestion of how to find one? Or any insight into whether/how this can work?
Thanks in advance.

I had very good experiences with New York Hypnotherapy. They integrate hypnosis into other well-evidenced therapeutic techniques, and the practitioners are all highly credentialed. It's not a magic bullet, but I found hypnosis a really useful practice in my own therapy.

It's worth a try! There was a meta-analysis in 2019 showing that hypnosis is effective at treating anxiety (and more effective when paired with other psychological treatments); here is a popular article describing some of the small studies done about hypnosis and anxiety.

Your mom might also like to read this first-hand account (from Allure Magazine) of someone using hypnosis for anxiety.

Personally, I didn't believe in hypnosis, but tried it out of desperation when I wanted to quit smoking and was very impressed with how well it worked, and have since effectively used it to control pain. Like the above commenter says, it's not a magic bullet, but it's a useful technique.

I don't know any NYC practitioners but wanted to give a shout out to the idea of using recordings -- either as a supplement to a live hypnotherapist, or as the main hypnosis practice. Being able to listen to a recording daily in your own home can be really effective. (Seeing someone in person can be effective too, both because they can tailor what they say to your particular situation, and also because the "medical ritual" of going to the office has its own placebo-enhancing properties.)

Anyway, I highly recommend this company Hypnosis Downloads, I've used them for a decade and while their website could use a facelift, their stuff is high quality. Plus, if your mom has an iPhone or iPad they have an app with a free anxiety treatment hypnosis on it, which might be nice for her to sample.
