L'Aveda Loca

I used to use Aveda's Madder Root conditioner and shampoo to add a red tint to my brown hair. Aveda discontinued Madder Root a while ago and I haven't found a replacement. I do see it's $168 on Ebay so others must miss it too.

Do you know of a shampoo and/or conditioner similar to the Madder Root red color by Aveda? I sometimes use Aveda's Clove (brown) but I miss their red.

Note: I use auburn henna sometimes, but I do want something like a color conditioner that is not such a hassle to use as henna. I'm not interested in actually dying my hair red at home with that whole process either.

Overtone might be a possibility.

Can't locate anything that uses madder root as an ingredient.

Davines Alchemic Shampoo Red seems to use artificial colors and has a ton of chemical-y ingredients, but supposedly has good results.

There may be a [mutagenic] reason for removing madder from products you apply to your skin.
pubmed
sciencedirect
etc.
Mutagenic is not the same as carcinogenic and the dose they load into lab-rats may far exceed what you find in shampoo. Natural constituents of madder colour [anthraquinones like lucidine; rubiadine, purpuroxanthine and alizarin] sound rather chemical-y to me.
Disclaimer: I've very little hair left in the game.

I've used Overtone - not any of their reds but it was easy to use and worked well.

Another vote for overtone. I have used their blue and ginger (not at the same time obvs) and both work great. If you have dark hair their "for brown" line is excellent.

The company Klorane makes great shampoos using natural ingredients. I have sandy blonde hair and their chamomile shampoo makes it brighter and kind of shiny. I just checked their site and did not see a product that would do for your auburn hair what the chamomile does for blonde, but I may have overlooked something. Here is a link to their hair analysis quiz.

I think Overtone is not just a better color-depositing product but a better conditioner overall, and it comes in both intense and daily versions.

I also used to work for Aveda and could get the stuff for literally pennies on the dollar and still preferred to pay full price for what I thought was a better product.
