What does FPP stand for?

I saw the acronym(?) "FPP" recently. It seems to be a MetaFilter exclusive term that's old enough that no one bothers to spell it out and I can't figure it out from context. What does it stand for?

Best answer: Front Page Post. Posts on the blue.

Acronyms on the wiki. You can dive very deep in the wiki, but it is harder to find than it probably should be.

Front Page Post is definitely the meaning you're looking for, but in some contexts it can also stand for the First Past the Post voting system.

Funnily enough, I know the phrase well (been round these parts for *spits* 16 years now...) but hadn't particularly thought of it as only being on the blue, I think of it as just meaning a post on any of the main pages, to distinguish it from comments. I might be alone in that!

Just you try making a post on any other page...

Just you try making a post on any other page...

You're doing it right here.

Typically, you would ask this kind of question on MetaTalk.

FPP? It's historical: Feeding Pets into Photocopiers.
I haven't worked out if they keep a page to the Wiki recording why.

Interestingly FPP is all over the FAQ, mostly as a tag, but is never defined there.

Typically, you would ask this kind of question on MetaTalk.

And thus we have a paradox- if you don't know something about Metafilter, how do you know where to ask it? It's logical to assume that "Ask Metafilter" would be where you could ask questions about Metafilter.

It is a little weird that the wiki isn't linked in the more section of the site's nav bar.

And a bit more lingo decoded: three of the sub-sections or sub-sites of MetaFilter may also be referred to by their predominant color. Ask MetaFilter is the green, where people post questions. MetaFilter, where people make Front Page Posts (FPPs) is the blue. Questions and discussions about MetaFilter, and some general discussions with other MeFites (users of MetaFilter) are on MetaTalk, also known as the grey.

Other parts of the site don't have the same color-related nicknames.

TTTCS origin predates West Wing! I learned that last night watching The Dresser. IMPORTANT: you also have to GO OUTSIDE and KNOCK TO BE READMITTED. So TTTCS is incomplete. This explains a lot.
