New book PR

I work in PR in Europe. My longterm client has self published an inspirational book about his life story. I have never dealt with that kind of PR before. I have been added to a meeting with him and the PR-agency of the self publishing plattform (so presumably they have some things planned themselves). Please give me general pointers on what avenues I should be exploring.

I should add that the media have always loved him and his life story. He is a business man who is very savvy about milking that for his personal gain.
I'm fairly certain I can eke out some nice interviews on the force of his personality and the fact that he's fairly well known in his corner of business.

My question is what things are usually done to promote those kinds of books these days, so that I can make sure they are actually being done and so that I don't come across as a complete newb in the meeting.

The academic institution i work at, in German speaking Europe gets inundated with requests by both self published authors and agents for authors that roughly fit our content focus to participate in our public panel discussions, or do book presentation s, or readings. These events then include a book sale and book signing.

Depending on the public profile of your client this can be something you can do: identify partners for such events, who aleady do public events and therefore already have local to them audience, and ask them if they are interested.

How successful this avenue is will (provided the author matches their interest) depend on the expectations of who pays for travel, hotel, etc.
Where i work we usually do not host book promo events where We are expected to pay travel hotel, and honorarium.
If there are funds for that we may provide the venue.
Basically, look for institution s who might be interested to host your client, provide local pr, and so provide an audience.

Sometimes also book stores may be interested but usually only if the name is big and they anticipate a good sale.

Podcast. A lot of authors are doing the podcast before the book, but authors of non-fiction could do several podcasts about the book with a promo code to buy off their own website instead of Amazon, so they capture more revenue per sale.
