all on the tip of my tongue, except gentleman sam, never knew.

I think "gentleman Jeff" is Jefferson Davis but I really am not sure.

Gentleman Jeff would appear to be Hector Berlioz. Sam looks a lot like César Cui. The others don't ring any bells for me.
