What to do in Fort Lauderdale?
March 13, 2006 10:41 AM

I'm attending the IAFA conference in Fort Lauderdale this week. However, I've never been to this city and I have a few days to kill there once the conference is over. Obviously there's the beach and plenty of clubs, but can anyone point some hidden treasures?

i grew up on hollywood beach a bit to the south, which (and i haven't been there for a while) is a great repository of ticky tack beach restaurants and bars populated by the flotsam and jetsam of the south.

not too many places like those. good conch chowder too.

tons of stuff in miami, of course, ranging from south beach to the venetian pool, etc. only an hour away, if you want to spend the time down there.

as for ft. lauderdale, lots of silly tourist stuff like the jungle queen boat ride or trips out to the everglades on boats are still available.

what sort of things do you like to do? a 20 minute drive north on I-95 will bring you to delray beach. head east to find lots of great restaurants, bars and shopping. the beach is beautiful and the people aren't too bad. one of the few places you can park and walk around
