How to fix Spotify not playing songs?

Spotify often has long pauses or doesn't play songs. How can I fix this? Details inside.

I previously had an LG V30+ phone on which i installed spotify. It always worked UNTIL i had to do a factory reset and after that, it had long pauses or songs would just stop. Shortly after i got a new phone, the G8x. The issue is still the same. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the app; tried both offline and online modes; checked for updates but couldn't find any.

I have spotify premium and the songs i am playing have been downloaded to a playlist.

It seems to work better with stable wifi( i think?) and i often use it when out walking or on public transit, where wifi access goes in and out. Could this be the issue? However, that wasn't an issue before...

You might need to allow background battery usage. Android hid this setting fairly well, it's Apps>Spotify>Battery. Looks like this.

if it happens with downloaded songs.... sign out of spotify on every device and browser. then log back in on your phone.

idk why but spotify used to do this to me and someone suggested this and it always works.

Thanks for suggestions. I do already have permission checked to run in background and I only have Spotify on my phone, don't use it on computer, and I've tried logging in/out.... Might be time to call spotify customer service.

Ooh, i think i figured this out! I think i hadn't actually downloaded all the songs on my playlist so when i go out and there isn't internet access or it's unstable, the songs i haven't downloaded don't play. (If anyone cares!)
