Help me find an essay about the Trump administration from last year

I'm trying to find an essay or a magazine article about the Trump administration and the Republican party from at least a year ago and my google-fu is completely failing me. Unfortunately, I don't remember the author or what publication it was in. Two things stood out for me about the essay. First, it featured a very vivid biological metaphor about some sort of insect or virus that did not just kill its victim, but completely transforms its still-alive host in a particularly cruel way.

Second, one of the main points of the essay was that commentators tended to frame the Trump administration's norm-breaking decisions as actions that were increasing the risk that American politics would be pushed over an invisible line into some sort of inescapable terrible future. That things were still okay now, but we were facing the risk that they could be much worse. Her point (I think it was a her) was that she felt the transformation and corruption of American politics had already occurred. That many commentators were failing to recognize the political crisis that the United States was already in. That what Americans are witnessing is what the corruption of one their major political parties looks like.

Any leads would be appreciated!

Best answer: Is it this piece by Rebecca Solnit that references parasitic wasps?
