I'd like to subscribe to your newsletter, Los Angeles edition

Hi! Just re-located to Los Angeles and very ready to take advantage of all the amazing culture this city has. I'm not on any social media (and don't plan to join), but one way I've typically stayed on top of events is subscribing to newsletters of various museums/theaters/comedy clubs etc and actually reading them and then going to them.

So: What museums / comedy clubs / theaters / literary organizations / academic places / food things/ ANYTHING AT ALL I AM SO OPEN do you recommend in LA so I can sign up for their newsletters? I'm happy with major places but also especially love tiny, obscure cultural things. I'm living on the west side but would love recs from anywhere in the city.

Atlas Obscura’s local newsletter has info on more obscure happenings, like tours of a carousel horse factory or a hidden garden.

LAist is great for info on general local events.

We Like LA has daily/weekly/monthly listings of things going on around town.

These might give you a good place to start in terms of finding venues that have mailing lists you can subscribe to. Welcome to Los Angeles!

I'd get a throwaway email address and open a FB account with a fake name only to be able to follow Hidden Los Angeles. She's a total gem, and has multiple posts per day with great LA stuff.

Seconding Hidden LA and LAist!

Hello fellow recent arrival! Welcome to the westside! I arrived 2 months ago. Maybe it's time for an LA meetup?

Adding a few places I'm following:
The Broad
The Hammer
Friends of Ballona Wetlands

For galleries, the Downtown Art Walk runs on the second Thursday of every month, when about 30 galleries in DTLA stay open until about 10pm. Guided tours are available from the headquarters near Pershing Square, but they sell out.
