Help me remember a movie.

What is this 70s/80s movie I remember watching as a kid with a giant planet in a glass box in a world in the clouds?

I remember watching a movie, likely on TV, in the late 80s or early 90s, and after years of periodic searching have not been able to find it.

The most vivid thing I remember is that some of the action took place in a separate world in the clouds/heavens. In this cloud world, there was a (possibly talking) giant spheroid planet in a glass box, kind of like a cage at a zoo, and the box possibly had golden edges. In the box, there with at least one person doing gymnastic flips around it in some sort of ritual. The person doing gymnastics was wearing a grayish jumpsuit. That planet may have been a representation of the earth. The planet was either claymation or puppetry, and the movie was live action.

I believe on earth there was also an older man who had a bag of magic dust that helped people get to this cloud world. That might have been a separate movie. I remember him opening the bag in what looked like a log cabin, and he was trying to hide it from others.

I watched this movie on in the US. I may have watched this movie on the Disney Channel, probably during the daytime. It was likely from the 70s or 80s. I also frequently watched Nickelodeon Special Delivery but memory of that was mostly animated films. It could have also been on WGN or Canadian channels that were broadcast in the northern midwestern US. We occasionally got movies on VHS from libraries and recorded from a family friend who had a satellite dish that I think got some foreign channels, but I think this was on our regular cable television package.

The color palette of the movie in my memory reminds me of Return to Oz.

Any chance it's the The Adventures of Baron Munchausen? I don't specifically recall scenes you describe, but I'm pretty sure there's a floating city and they visit the moon. It's a weird little movie with a lot of crazy imagery so it might be it.

Perhaps "The Adventures of Mark Twain"? But, it was all claymation, so doubtful.

Sounds neat, can't wait to find out...

That actually reminds me of a part of Eraserhead.

From this "List of stop-motion" films, perhaps Chronopolis? (Which seems to mix live action with animation)
