What else can I put in my heels?
February 21, 2019 10:30 AM   Subscribe

I just scored a pair of these shoes on EBay... the heels are removable and you can put anything inside. They were also originally sold filled with glitter, as well as Barbie doll heads. My first instinct would be to put fish inside, but that would be too cruel to the fish so I'm NOT willing to do that. But I would love more ideas! Ideally nothing too expensive or heavy, though I doubt I'll be doing any distance walking in them, so some weight is probably manageable. And I don't know if they're actually watertight. Ideas?

Best answer: You're obviously not going to use real fish, but we live in the future, where there are robot fish you can put in your shoes (would need to test the water-tightness though)

Best answer: Googly eyes. Colorful small pom-poms. Crumpled tin foil. Christmas lights. Jell-O fruit molds. Cheerios or Kix. Shredded newspaper. Tinsel. Skittles or M&Ms. Hershey kisses. Lucky Charms. Wine corks. The possibilities are endless!

Or how about a statement piece, like saving up all of the wasteful bits of life that we take for granted and never use? Spare buttons, the plastic thing that attaches to clothes sale tags, etc.?

Best answer: If you can seal them , a snow globe would would be excellent! Maybe a different scene for each shoe. Or wads of LED lights! Or lit up snow globes! Bonus points for a replica of the National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation house!

Best answer: My first instinct would be to put fish inside

How about a plastic toy fish instead?

My own first thought was a small figurine in an arms-raised pose, so it looked like it was doing the heel-lifting.

Best answer: Mineral oil & plastic fish, or octopi, if you can find little plastic ones.
Mineral oil floats on blue water to look like ocean
Legos
Lego minifigs
Army guys
If you can get some red, pink, orange surveyor's tape, or maybe tissue you could affix it to the top and it could look like flames, esp. with
Tiny led lights
Action figures
Go to a great toy store or art supply store - dominoes, dice
Airplane-sized bottles of liquor
A diorama would be cool.

Best answer: I've used blue hair gel and plastic fish as decoration to good effect. Gel is thick enough to hold fish in place in the "water column" and should tolerate some non-water-tightness.

Tinsel would have the sparkle of glitter with less mess and easier changeout.

Best answer: My first instinct is to layer different colors of sand in a pretty pattern, although I don't know if that would be too heavy.

Best answer: Jewelry: Buy exciting looking bling at the thrift store.

Toffee in bright wrappers: Get a box of Quality Street or whatever you favour, eat the toffees and save the wrappers, refill the wrappers with little chunks of appropriately sized styrofoam to avoid the toffees melting out of the wrappers.

Pickles: Throw out and wash the shoe well after a couple of days.

Realistic fake paper money: Unless there is a risk you might get mugged.

Hunting scents and lures: Rabbit, bobcat, racoon, woodchuck etc. are likely to be the most successful but if you live in the suburbs deer and coyote may both result in some adventures: Note: DO NOT DO THIS. Especially grizzly bear scent. Don't.

Best answer: I feel like this would probably ruin them and/or the seal may be too tight, but it would look super cool to have some kind of smoke/mist/fog coming out of them. Small cone incense, or dry ice, or something like that.

Best answer: Perch a couple of those robot butterfly toys with flapping wings on twigs. Especially cool because there will be movement when you're standing still, but maybe not good if you plan to dance in them.

Peruse American Science and Surplus for inspiration. Fill your shoes with small feet. Go full steam punk. Wear a bathrobe and put glow in the dark rubber ducks in your shoes and call it couture.
