Ravenclaw palooza

Our 9 year old boy is lovng him some Harry Potter, and is firm that Ravenclaw is his house of choice. As we are remodeling, he has a chance to redecorate his room, and I’d love to do some ravenclaw touches, but am having a hard time finding much that isn’t Griffindor and Slytherin. Wall decals? Bed curtains? Can you point me at anything that would give the right look?

Amazon has a ton of wall banners. I like this one.

There's cool bedding too in the general HP theme but I haven't spotted Ravenclaw specific ones yet. I'm sure they're out there.

how do you feel about a ravenclaw shower curtain?

You could also paint his room blue and bronze. One do one wall blue and bronze stripes.

There's a pinterest board with lots of inspo for you - lots of blues and ravens and starry ceilings. Also, a Ravenclaw bedding set. Just take a look at the results for 'Ravenclaw bedroom' on google images for more inspo.

Pottery Barn has a whole collection of bedroom decor. It looks like the PBteen page has the most house-specific stuff, but there is a lot of dark blue even in the generic Hogwarts-themed items.

You are including many bookcases, right?
A bookcase bed, or a double decker that has a study area at the bottom.
Computer center, globe (globe light?), hanging planets orbiting the sun, glow-in-the-dark constellations on the walls and ceiling.
A golden snitch and other Quiddich props.
Some way to turn the closet into the Room of Requirement (Come and Go Room).

I'm not clear whether you want nods to a Ravenclaw theme or very explicit Ravenclaw stuff, or both. However, if you want at least some Ravenclaw explicit decorations, you should check out Redbubble. They tend to have a lot of fannish art, decorations, etc, like this Ravenclaw acrylic block with the house seal. There are also various posters etc with that seal from the artist, but I'm sure you can find lots of other options. That was just the first thing that jumped out at me. I would guess Etsy might have some stuff worth checking out as well.

A few other things I came across:

A classy platform 9 3/4 sign in Ravenclaw colors
A Ravenclaw head boy wall sticker
I particularly like this sticker with a raven and the characteristics of the Ravenclaw house

Best answer: In the books, Ravenclaw colours are blue and bronze; however, in the films they were changed to blue and silver.
I think using blue and bronze and silver is a start. Dark blue ceiling, silver stars, comets, moon. A large emblem on the wall and one on the door. Keep checking thrift stores for elaborate frames that can be sprayed silver or bronze, put portraits of known Ravenclaws in them. If you can make one with the magic picture effect that would be very cool. Statue of a raven. And general HP theme of gothic stonework, perhaps a coatrack and academic gown to go with the requisite muffler.

I would think the first thing to establish would be whether he considers the Ravenclaw colours to be blue and bronze or blue and silver. In keeping with their house traits, Ravenclaws can be somewhat opinionated on the subject.

Epbot has a few HP themed craft and decor ideas. Here are some nightlights.

Etsy is your friend! Ravenclaw blanket. Storage boxes. Jar nightlight.

Bedroom curtains
Bedding
Lightshades
Bathrobe
And if you fancy DIYing any of the above there's blue and white fabric options.

Alas no wallpaper but you could do some fun touches with graphic print paper - maybe wall art or paper chains?

Response by poster: You guys are amazing! I’d googled and looked at amazon and Etsy but missed most of what you’ve posted here. I’m looking for a few Ravenclaw specific items to combine with general decor to create the mood. Painting the ceiling is a fabulous idea. We will be switching the old carpet out for wood-like the idea of some bed curtains and a blue rug.

Final thought - vintage bookshelves wallpaper for a feature wall?

For the reveal, might want to hide a tiara someplace to see if he ever finds it.

Ravenclaw non-specific, but consider hanging candles like these from the ceiling with clear filament. Also, making a DIY broomstick and mounting it on the wall.

Best answer: Also I'd say look at the way the Ravenclaw common rooms are depicted in films/games/art and try for decorating cues. If you add only a few Ravenclaw crest items but do the room up Ravenclaw style with some magical touches, you'll get where you need to be.

Ideas:
-lots of room for books and a cozy study/reading nook
-In addition to his regular books, maybe go to a secondhand shop and see if you can find some books in fancy covers or bound with leather to use as decoration? Bonus if you can find a nicer edition of one of his actual faves.
-hollow book for secret treasures
-look on Pinterest for ideas for book-based décor
-hint: if you take the dust jacket off a Reader's Digest Condensed Book, it usually has a pretty cover design, you can find them pretty easily at thrift shops, and you don't have to feel bad about turning them into a hollow book or gluing them together to make an occasional table or whatever.
-can you find a trunk like a HP trunk for the end of his bed? Bonus if you use decoupage to apply some wizarding labels and such.
-surely someone on Etsy is selling bookplates from Flourish and Blott's or similar?
-maybe a few accessories of the globe/spyglass/sort
-maybe an inkwell/quill, bottle of ink + jar of feather "quills" for decoration?
-wand stand/holder?
-stuffed or model raven or eagle (looking in patriotic searches may find you a good bronze eagle statue!)
-maybe find a plaster bust somewhere and put a tiara on it - maybe on top of the highest bookshelf?
-In the books, a bronze, eagle-shaped door knocker asks a riddle to open the common room - if you could find an eagle knocker for the outside of his door that would be really fun.

Response by poster: Thank you all! We bought a dark blue paint sample we’re going to try for the ceiling, with gold stars and blue damask looking wallpapered for one wall. Once wood floors are in, I’ll throw an old looking rug down, and then follow up with some of the ideas above-I’m thinking switching to tall wood book cases, a faux candle bronze chandelier, and curtains at windows and bed. The details listed above will be a fun thrift store search project for us!
