Help us name our new orange kitty!

Adopting two kitties this week. The female Tortie has been named, but we're stumped on a name for the orange male tabby. Help!

Right before Thanksgiving we had to put down our beloved 17-year-old cat after a long battle with kidney disease. :( I knew I wasn't going to last long without adopting another cat (the house just doesn't feel like a home without a cat in it) and sure enough we've decided to adopt two new little furrbabies.

The female is a Tortie named Tortellini (Leeni). The male is a short haired orange tabby with the most serious/sweet face ever. We're stumped on a name for him. I'm leaning towards keeping the theme of a food related name, but don't like the typical common orange cat names such as Pumpkin, Nutmeg, etc. Possibilities are Samosa (Sam) or Purrsimmon (Sim/Simmons).

Bonus points for Italian or South Asian naming ideas as those are the two ethnicities in our house.

My family recently lost our old orange cat Curry (named after the spice mix, to match his grey speckled sister Pepper). Obviously I'm biased, but I think Curry is a great name for an orange cat.

Turmeric! Long for rick/ricky/merrick, and that way they both have T names which is super cute.

I love Pursimmon. It has so many great short versions. In addition to yours there's Purrcy, Simms, Mon...

Ah - I love a food based name.
I have a cat called Croque Monsieur aka Crocket, My little French Gentleman!

What about Macaroni? Or any other type of pasta - Garganelli is a fave of mine :)

or KD? for Kraft Dinner... that's pretty Orange.

Sweet Potato? Tato / Tater for short?

So many possibilities, so little time!

The color orange in Italian is "arancione," and the fruit is "arancia." Ari for short, maybe.

I really like Turmeric/Ricky/Ric as well.

You realize this is very difficult without pictures.

I had an orange-and-white cat officially named Hakit J Fluffypants that we frequently called Creamsicle and FlufferNutter, because he had the fluffiest white belly in all the land.

How about Captain Carrot?

Butterscotch

If that doesn't suit, then definitely Slagathor.

Because of the mandarin oranges in the salad, what about The Chinese Chicken? And you could call him CC for short. Or Chicky. Chicky Nicky. Nicky Noodles. You know how these nicknames evolve over time.

Alternatively - if they are a dilute orange/buff/cream/beige, you could name them 'Office Park Wall'.

Adorable idea for the naming theme. Since you already have an Italian food covered, I'll offer some orangey suggestions on the other side.

Tamarind (long for Tamo or Rindi)
Mango
Makhani (long for 'honey!')
Chutney -- because it just sounds rather comical

Canteloupe (Canters for short, especially if he's an active little guy)
Butternut Squash (Buddy for short)
Prosciutto
Papaya
Satsuma
Paprika

I really like Purrsimmon/Simmons too! I kinda think you should just go with that :)

I was thinking of orange fruits but that was before I saw the pic. He seems more cream than orange, to me. But I do love the idea of “Purrsimmon”...

Purrmesan? (After the Italian cheese, of course.)

It isn't food related, but the first thing that sprang to my mind is "Tabby Rasa." And I know from experience that I won't have any better ideas after reading everyone else's....

That's the shade of some peaches, so....Peach.

I vote Peach.

Peach in Italian is Pesca, apparently! What a cute cat name! Or, you know, he could be Momofuku.

Mango is good, but Mango Pickle is maybe better, he looks like a troublemaker.
Chicken Tikka, because it'd be fun to say/yell.
Dosa, because he's kinda dosa-coloured more than orange.
Or Papadum! That'd be super cute.

For Italian, I'm getting a pastry vibe, so:
Canoli, cute and easy.
Bombolone, if you think he'll be chubby.
Tiramisu for his stripes, or Pizzelle for his colour.
or Sfogliatelle, if you want to baffle the receptionist at the vet.

... and now I'm really hungry.

Response by poster: Argh! SO MANY GOOD NAMES. It's going to be so hard!

Sadly we've encountered a small hiccup with the second cat, the orange male. Im not going to go into details but instead we've agreed to take one of the Tortie's litter mates, who thankfully is also orange. Alfredo is a strong contender for him as he's the clone of the cat we just put to sleep, and his name was Fredo. (But we'd probably call him Al. However, husband isn't thrilled with that name so...)

But here's his picture just in case anyone wants to look at him and throw more names our way. Foster mom says hes very shy but loves to play with anything that jingles. Current foster name is Fig, which we don't hate but doesn't feel quite right yet.

New male kitty

Thank you all!

Response by poster: Thank you well, so many great names to choose from! I fought long and hard for my favorites which were Alfredo, tamarind, macaroni and fig. But my husband put his foot down and said that he gets to choose male cats name, and sadly he liked none of the food related things. So we currently have a Tortellini (Leeni) and Aslan (Az or Azzie). We’ll see if it sticks. Thanks again for your help!
