Looking for a reputable copyright attorney

I used an copyright attorney through an Oregon lawyer referral service and was not satisfied with the interaction or the end result. Among other trust issues, although high fees were expected, but surprise fees were not.

I need to find a reputable firm or attorney to help me vet my manuscript for things like defamation or plagiarism. It doesn't have to be in my state. Is there a guild of attorneys that focus just on writing where they are reviewed? I've been told AVVO might not be a good choice b/c reviews might be inflated. Any suggestions?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but why isn't your publisher handling this?

Best answer: If you would describe the interaction, the end result, the high fees, and the surprise fees, you might get some feedback from this post on whether it is even possible to find a more "reputable" attorney than the first one.

Also, this question could be addressed to a writers' website, not a legal website or a general website like this one, since writers are the folks who have actually worked with the professionals who do this kind of work.
