Trick or treating in Orlando

Hi gang, My family and I will be in Orlando, Florida during Halloween. I'd like to take my kids (both under 8 years old) to a local neighborhood in/around Orlando for a real American trick or treating, as they've never experienced it before. Can you guys recommend places or neighborhoods to go to? Thanks in advance!

I know you did write local neighborhood, but if for any reason that plan does not work out, you can consider taking the family to the Disney "Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party" at Disney World where they can also trick or treat in the park.

Response by poster: Thanks for the suggestion, alchemist. We're already signed up for that.

This post seems to be recent and has a bunch of suggestions, but I'm not local to the area. Note that kids must have costumes to trick or treat. Here are some suggestions for Orlando-area from last year that could also be a guide.

I'd say Baldwin Park. It's an un-gated affluent neighborhood with houses close together. If you're staying in the Disney or I-Drive areas, you're looking at a 30-45 minute drive.

If you want something closer to Disney/I-Drive, maybe find a subdivision in the Dr. Phillips suburb. You'll have to do some Googling for specific neighborhoods.

Best answer: Fmr. Orlando trick-or-treater here: also came to say Baldwin Park.

YMMV but if you wanted the real American, hit-the-big-houses-sugar-crash-by-the-end experience: I'd start at the "top" of New Broad St. (after entering from Bennett, the intersection with Fern) and do the right side of the lake loop, swing around at Common Way to do the left side, take a right when you get back to Fern and hit the houses along there, especially the small triangular park made with Virgina, continue down Fern back to Common Way, take a left to walk by the Elementary School (hitting the little loop in front of it) and then taking a right down Corrine to the houses around the swimming pool and the large green park that nobody names but is marked on the map as "the commons". Snake down Meeting Place to Blue Jacket Park, take a seat and enjoy your candy // get picked up in the big parking lot by the baseball fields :)

Based on the specific suggestions give, google maps to find a tight but fancy neighborhood. If the houses are too far apart, they won't be able to cover much territory. Fancy houses give out full size candy bars and decorate all crazy (seriously crazy) for Halloween now.
