Rehome a cat in Palm Desert

I need to rehome an adult cat in Palm Desert by Monday or my mom will be evicted. The Humane Society of the Desert and every other place we can google is full. Our friends can't help. Who do we give this cat to and what do we do? Fighting the landlord is not an option and neither is moving, but driving a couple counties over is.

Best answer: In my experience, neighborhood social media is very good for this. I'd suggest posting to any and all neighborhood Facebook and Nextdoor groups. Describe the cat, their personality, "sell" the cat by promoting how it doesn't pee/scratch/whatever. Mention if it is okay in homes with other cats, dogs, and children to the best of your knowledge. Add in if it is up-to-date on its shots or that you all will pay for any vaccinations. Also explain that this is not because the cat isn't loved but because of an unfortunate housing situation. Also maybe add something like "or if you know of someone looking, please put us in touch."
Whenever I see these in my own neighborhood groups, it appears that the cat is rehomed fairly quickly.

Good luck to all of you!

Best answer: Call the vet's office that you have been using for this cat and explain to the vet ... if they are a typical practice they'll be able to come up with at least one animal lover on staff who will take the cat on a temporary basis while you work on finding a new permanent home, particularly if you offer to pay. As a last resort, ask if they will give you a "hardship discount" or some such to board the cat while you get it sorted. You'll be paying for the boarding, but it sounds like the alternatives are lacking at this point.

Best answer: Here is a link to an Instagram post under which California cat fosterers say where they are located. There are other comments, too, but I think it's likely that you could connect here with someone who will take the cat or who will have connections to a shelter. There are more than 300 comments to that post and i did see one for San Bernardino County (which, admittedly, is the size of Delaware) but I do think it's worth looking through.

The person who hosts that Insta is a foster in the Seattle area who is one of the nicest and most well known foster cat accounts on Insta, so the comments on the post I linked have a high degree of probability of genuineness.

In case you're unfamiliar with Instagram, my recommendation would be to find those near Palm Desert and DM them, rather than posting a comment here or on their accounts.
