Student loan updates or advocacy group

Hello! I'm about a year away from enrolling in the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. I want to stay abreast of news regarding it and other federal student loan matters. (In case it suddenly vanishes, which seems likely.) Other than Google, are there groups or news sources you recommend for getting updates on these topics? Thank you.

(a) If you haven't already done so, please, please file an Employer Certification Form right away so you can learn if there are any problems with your eligibility. A lot of people learn tragically late that they have the wrong kind of loans or similar.

(b) Can't formally endorse, but you can follow the NCLC's Student Loan Borrower Assistance website for news.

(c) If you find you do have issues, don't forget to complain to the CFPB and to your local state attorney general!

Google Alerts

(I know you said "other than Google" in your question but I believe you might have been referring to
basic Google searching.)

EJW has a regular newsletter updating on the state of attempts to destroy the program, including thing you can do in response. Here's the sign up link.

I've used their information to create action items for my neighborhood Indivisible chapter,

I have no idea who she is, but Ask Heather Jarvis has good coverage of the lawsuits and other attempts to protect the program and the people vested in it.

Best answer: Here you go! The reddit forum noted in this post as well as the Facebook page for TISLA are perfect for this.

The linked post by k8t has pretty much all the answers for how to navigate PSLF, but I do want to ask what you mean by "a year from enrolling." Are you a year from finishing school and planning to start a nonprofit job? Or are you a year from 10 years of working in a nonprofit and request the forgiveness?

I ask because if it's the latter then step one for keeping yourself informed is really to send in the Employer Certification Form and get your loans transferred to FedLoan servicing, so you can see how many of your payments are actually counting toward PSLF. You can do that as soon as you have a nonprofit employer to sign off on the form.
