What consumer credit counseling agency worked for you? How did it change your finances or life?

It's been several years since someone asked this question, and in the meantime several of the agencies mentioned in past questions are gone.

It's time for me to get my debt in order and for various reasons, I don't want to declare bankruptcy.

Have you been through consumer credit counseling? What agency did you use and did you like it? How did it change your finances or life?

Green Path is amazing. Seriously. They negotiate with each of your creditors to bring down the inrterset rates and you pay Green Path monthly and they pay the creditors. It doesn't show up on your credit report and the accounts are frozen so you can't go further into debt as you pay things down.

I was just researching Habitat for Humanity and learned that if you volunteer towards possibly getting a home they give you money management training. A great group of people - I can only assume their training would be good.

We are 44 months into a 48-month debt payment program with Greenpath. They have been great to work with, including some sessions early on about managing cash flow.
