Who's saying smart/witty things about the World Cup on Twitter

I just read Ruud Gullit's How to Watch Soccer (it's the U.S. edition) and wondered who are the football experts making insightful comments (live-tweeting is good too) on Twitter?

Best answer: You could try Michael Cox for tactical stuff. I enjoy Brian Phillips and Miriti Murungi for the wit side of things.

The Guardian has an excellent minute-by-minute match commentary I usually keep open if I am watching a match. Just go to this page and click the “Live” story.

Best answer: Bloxworth Snout got a couple of my recommendations already. I'll add Zito Madu, Laurent Dubois, and the Double Pivot guys Michael Caley and Mike Goodman.

As a caveat, I am really into both the U.S. national teams and I follow reporters/analysts who are American mostly. But I went through who I follow on Twitter or have saved on soccer-related Twitter lists - it's a mix of analysts, people in Russia covering the games, people who are just livetweeting or people who stand out in my mind as good soccer reporters, but these are many of my general soccer favorites:

Best answer: My favourite live tweeter during the World Cup is John Green. Hear me out - he may be a YouTuber and NYTimes best selling YA author but he is also a rabid football fan and is live tweeting every match on his sports twitter: @sportswithjohn.

@robertorojas does good tweeting of his own, and just as important, retweets good stuff from others

Best answer: lots of great recs already above but definitely seconding Laurent Dubois (@soccerpolitics) (check out this piece he wrote for Vox, "How to really watch the World Cup") and Brian Phillips and Zito Madu; I don't think anyone has mentioned Shireen "Footybedsheets" Ahmed yet but she's also fab: @_shireenahmed_ is her handle.
