Seeking headhunter and/or career counselor in the Boston area

I am getting back into the job market after being self-employed for the last 10 years. My career path has been unorthodox -- mostly in the software industry (as a manager, not programmer), with some stints in non-profit/advocacy. I need help getting back into the regular working world.
I'm looking for recommendations for a headhunter and/or career counselor.
From a headhunter, I'd hope to get help figuring out the job market and help putting my resume together in a way that will make sense to hiring manager. I'd also hope to get help finding positions that would benefit from my particular skills and experience. I understand that headhunters are primarily interested in earning their commission, but I would hope they'd also have some understanding of the job market and what employers are looking for.
I'd also be interested in working with (and paying) a career counselor to help me with some of these questions: how can I best apply my experience and skills; what sort of work and jobs will be satisfying and pay well; how can I turn my eclectic past into a story that will make sense to prospective employers.
I would appreciate specific recommendations of people to work with. It would also be helpful to have general advice on working with headhunters and career counselors most productively. Please feel free to let me know if I'm way off in my thinking about what these people do.
Here's more about my background in case it is helpful:
I am not a programmer, but I have worked closely with programmers for most of my career. Some of this work has been relatively prestigious, working with very senior people for very large well-known companies. I'm skilled at translating between technical people and non-technical people, translating requirements into technical plans, and technical plans into products. I generally have a good intuitive grasp of technical feasibility. The sort of stuff I've done would probably be categorized as product management and/or product design.
Feel free to memail me with recommendations if that's better.
Thanks.
