2+2=5 - A Havana tag

I saw the graffiti tag "2+2=5" all over Havana in a recent visit. I understand it's a 1984 reference, but does anyone have any further insight as to why this tag is being used in Havana?

Best answer: Does not explicitly link it but:

“We look for visible locations, we look for places where people will see our work. Places near bus stops or where there is a lot of traffic.” he says. His friends Yulier P. and Fabian (2+2=5) explain that it is art that has given them the most freedom to express themselves. When I asked Fabian what the symbol 2+2=5 means, he told me without hesitation that it is a symbol that represents his freedom.

2 star + 2 star = 5 stars, nothung to do with Orwell.

2+2=5 has its own Wikipedia page. Yes 1984 is an important reference - but not the only one.
