Short sound bar suggestions

My parents have a TV in their room on a relatively narrow table. My brother and I want to get them a sound bar since the TV's speakers are terrible, but we need a small form factor. Does the MetaFilter hive mind have any experience in this area? Something the size of JBL's BOOST TV for instance (but not back ordered until forever)
Boost TV is available at Amazon, although the price is higher.

Sonos PLAYBASE might be worth a look, although it is expensive.
The Sony HT-MT300 mentioned above is good
The Polk Audio MagniFi Mini is also worth a look
Both of those include a woofer.
I think the one to look at though is the Bose Solo 5 TV sound system. I have not A/B'd these products, I just generally find Bose does a better job with less. It is a little wider than the JBL BOOST TV though by about 7".

IME, don't discount having a sub-woofer. They're often wireless and just need to plug in somewhere in the room, no junk or cords visible. We hide ours in a corner and never even see it most of the time. But they make an amazing difference in sound.
