Macbook no longer receiving text messages from one contact

As of yesterday afternoon, I can no longer get text messages from one person (call her X) to appear in a thread on my macbook, even though I still get that "one new notification from X" pop-up in the upper right corner of the macbook monitor. I get the notification, then open our text thread in Messages on my laptop, and none of hers are appearing since yesterday. Any suggestions as to what I might try?

I've had several other ppl in my contacts list text me today and I am getting all of those. I can text X, and X can text me, but I only get the message on my phone. I went into Settings > Messages on my phone and disallowed and then allowed again getting texts from everyone, didn't make a difference. Is there a setting on my macbook I might change? I have a Macbook bought within the last year, running OS X El Capitan. I have an iphone 6+.

One other thing to consider, my sweet little helpful doggo decided to help me clean my screen by licking it for me yesterday, could that be something? Obligatory pic of the baddest boy.

Is it possible she got a new device? Was she on an iPhone, and switched to Android? Or maybe even an upgraded iPhone? Is she getting your messages?

Is she on a Kindle? I read somewhere Apple was blocking them.

Response by poster: She is not on a Kindle, and not on a new device. But now that you mention that, hydra77, I helped her move from the UWS of NYC to SoHo yesterday. You know, on the coldest day since time began. So she has different wifi now. Thanks for that nudge, I will get her to look into that!

Look in the preferences for messages on your end, "You can be reached for messages at" box and make sure all the accounts you expect are in there. I had an issue for a while - different from yours but similarly inscrutable - where my wife would accidentally use a less common email address for me to send a message on her phone and consequently Verizon would generate a stupid EMAIL for it.

On messages on the mac you can turn off some of those selectively. Make sure what she's sending to isn't unchecked. Also look at how she's stored in your address book; the devices do some consolidating based on persons and perhaps you have her source email in multiple people on the mac - one icloud, one local?

All else fails... messages can just be flaketacular. I have an issue of late where stuff gets put into my message stream out of order on my phone but correctly on my mac, presumably because of the timestamp my mac receives it? Who knows.

Response by poster: Just found out there's another person whose texts are also not showing up. So it's not X's wifi. I will run thru your checklist phearlez, thank you!

I'm only asking for the sake of being thorough, and because it almost always fixes this particular problem when it occurs on iPhones: have you rebooted your machine since this started?

Best answer: I have, thanks for asking ;)

So I solved it by deleting the text threads. There is virtually no online question and answer place or forum that suggests this. Both thread were super long, being from my daughter, and from my son, filled with photos and links and things that I did not want to delete. I saved all of the photos and saved the texts as word docs to my hard drive, and deleted both threads. I immediately texted both of them again as tests, and now I am getting all replies again. So if anyone else comes across this and gets no love from the countless forum suggestions, try deleting.
