Where should I eat (alone) in Seattle?

I will be in Seattle alone for one Friday night. Where can I get a decent, sit down vegetarian meal for one?

Just looking for somewhere reasonably good, vegetarian friendly, and not so busy it will be awkward to eat alone there on a Friday night. I will be in the Capitol Hill area. I'm not picky and eat all cuisines.

I suggest Poppy for it's creative cuisine. It is in Capitol Hill. They always have a vegetarian option that isn't an afterthought.

Carte de Oxaca has good vegetarian options. Nice long bar where you can sit and eat.

I love the veggie ramen at Kizuki. There's a Capitol Hill location.

Plum Bistro is great, and all vegan. My favorite is the Jerk Tofu Sandwich.

If you don't mind heading down to the International District, Phnom Penh Noodle House this is one of your few US opportunities to taste Cambodian food.

Tamarind Tree, for great vegetarian Vietnamese options

Annapurna is right in Capitol Hill and is super vegetarian/vegan friendly.

Cafe Flora is so good. SO GOOD. So is Poppy, but Cafe Flora is nothing BUT vegetarian and they have a Portobello Wellington that was so wonderful and something that if you tried to make it on your own would take hours and hours. I don't know if it would be awkward to eat there alone but I wouldn't care, maybe if that makes you feel awkward go later in the night or call ahead? It's not too far from the Capitol Hill area.

Can second Poppy for deliciousness and I'm going there myself Thursday, but it gets pretty busy AND loud, though they do have areas that are single seat friendly. Seconding Annapurna as well, but it too can get busy.

Ethiopian food is good for vegetarian (veggie combo platters forever) and Queen Sheba is on Capitol Hill (though not my favorite ethiopian place, but I don't know if I've ever not enjoyed any ethiopian restaurant I've been to), pretty much any Ethiopian place you look up would be suitable.

Oh yes, if Cafe Flora is not too far for you, that would be my top choice.

If you are in North Capitol Hill (ie, close to Volunteer Park), I like Jamjuree for really good Thai. It's in an old diner, doesn't look like much from the outside but has excellent Thai food, and is the kind of casual neighborhood place where no one will give you a second look if you're alone. I've gone there with vegetarians and they have been very happy.

Carte de Oxaca has good vegetarian options. Nice long bar where you can sit and eat.

Heads up that this links to a different Oaxacan restaurant, just so it's not confusing. Carte de Oaxaca is super-good too, but it's far from Capitol Hill in Ballard, and cramped/busy enough that it could be awkward for solo dining.

Fuck Poppy, their Vegan/Vegetarian option was awful the 2 times I've gone. And super expensive for treating yourself. I'd say go to a dedicated veggie place.

Nthing Cafe Flora for classic West Coast vegetarian, its not quite on Capitol Hill but its pretty close and you can walk to the lake afterwords.

But Plum Bistro is really where you want to go if you want someplace with amazing food and a nice atmosphere. unique to the city, a long-term institution with really distinct dishes. Its in the middle of Capitol Hill. Jerk Tofu is crazy amazing as is the Mama Africa salad. I've been eating at their restaurants for over a decade and Plum is just the best. Can't stress it enough, this is 100% the answer to your question. I had an amazing birthday dinner there where we watched a cook eating cheetos while making 17$ vegan salads. Just a fun detail). Don't let the all vegan status turn you off, its great.

(If you want more of a punk rock/dive bar kind of vibe Georgetown Liquor Company in Georgetown is amazing and all vegetarian place than will make anything on their menu vegan. They can get sassy but its super cheap and the food is quality veggie comfort food. Can't recommend it enough, I eat there with my parents and GF at least once a month and we are all picky different versions of vegan vegetarian and its just great. So that's where you should go if you're going to be in South Seattle. This is for future readers.)

+1 to Cafe Flora. It is technically Madison Valley but it is SO GOOD. There is also Plum - which has a lovely eat-at bartop and is a great place for dining alone. I am not a vegetarian but I could eat at Cafe Flora every night. I like Plum but I felt like their menu wasn't as creative as Cafe Flora's is.

The Highline Bar in Capitol Hill is a dive club that books punk and metal shows. They also have an extensive vegan menu. Accessibility note: They are on the second floor, and sometimes the elevator up is fenced off, if that's a concern.

If you're willing to venture out, the Central District has numerous Ethiopian restaurants; all of them have vegetarian/vegan options. The CD is maybe a mile from Capitol Hill; the First Hill Streetcar will take you close to some of the restaurants that run along 12th Ave.

Also with the Highline - on the days that they have shows, doors don't open for that until 8pm or so, so you don't have to worry about that overlap if you're just going there to eat. However, if you do want to stick around for whatever show they're having that night, the bouncer will float around and sell you a ticket.

Via Tribunali will be a zoo on a Friday but the margherita DOC pizza with actual buffalo mozerrella is one of the best pizzas I've ever eaten and you can eat at the bar so you don't have to feel bad about taking up a seat at a busy time. I dragged my boyfriend there ("Noramally you're not that excited about pizza, but if you say so...") and the he understood.
