Sensually yours (need erotic books/vids recommendations)

I’m seeking suggestions for steamy books, fanfiction, and videos/shows/series because I'm simply awful at picking these myself. Snowflakes divulged in the extended explanation.

Hello mefites,

I’m seeking suggestions for steamy books, fanfiction, and videos/shows/series. I’m laughably bad at choosing most media for myself (whether the subject matter is erotic or not) and tend to hate most of what I pick, so most times, I get recommendations.

What titles do you suggest that also fulfill these idiosyncrasies?

Hetero pairings preferred, but I’m good with others too.

Written media:
I like longer stories more than short ones. I didn't enjoy X: The Erotic Treasury, partly for the length issue. (no pun intended, sorry, couldn't resist).
Classy word choice preferred to “hardcore” words (e.g. those that rhyme with “duck” or “dock.” Sorry if that’s silly, want to be sure this question actually gets posted.)
Romances with good love scenes are also good. I much prefer an artsy/intellectual situation with build-up to a play-by-play of slippery body parts.
Mid to pro level writers preferred.

I already like: the Sookie Stackhouse novels
Anne Rice’s Cry to Heaven and Sleeping Beauty books
50 Shades of Gray (the erotic parts were good enough to where I could overlook the writing)

Video:
I’ve taken a brief tour of pornography and found it boring. Same for shows where the love scenes feel aimed at adolescent boys, e.g. Spartacus and Game of Thrones. I like both shows, but they leave me cold, erotically.
In addition to live action, I also like animation and would be interested in some softer hentai suggestions (if those exist).
Bonus points for shows in Non-English languages + subtitles. I’m considering telenovas as well, but it’s a lot to go through without a guide.

I already like: the movie L’amant
some episodes of the Bliss TV series

Thanks very much for your help!

If you liked the "erotic parts" of 50 Shades, try Abigail Barnette's The Boss series.

If you have not seen the movie Sirens, with Hugh Grant and Sam O'Neill, then holy sweet mother of God you absolutely must. It's not a "porn" film as such - it's the story of a prim-and-proper preacher who visits a hedonist artist in Australia; and while the two guys are arguing over something (I think the artist has submitted an erotic painting to a museum and the preacher is there to talk him into withdrawing it?), the preacher's wife is coming to an erotic awakening by watching the hijinks of the artists' models and seeing how the artist and the models conduct themselves. And it is sexy as hell - a couple I knew went to see it when it came out, and the next day the guy got into a huddle with all the other guys in our circle and said "take your girl to see this movie, because I promise you that night you guys will have THE BEST SEX." And my then-boyfriend and I went to see it the following weekend, and...we did.

And if you get into Anais Nin - then you absolutely must see Henry and June, which was based on the portion of Nin's diary that discusses her affair with Henry Miller. Seeing Maria de Medeiros as Nin in that film actually made me question my sexuality for about an hour.

I think you might enjoy Jacqueline Carey--"Kushiel's Dart" is her first one.

Try the novel 'Vox' by Nicholas Baker.
Former gf and I took turns reading it to each other with.. uh... many intermissions.

It's definitely not for everyone, but Alan Moore and Melinda Gebbie's Lost Girls has really made me scratch and itch before, and in spite of the really explicit nature of much of the book, it manages to seem highbrow.

That being said, it is extremely kinky, so keep that in mind before you invest in a copy (I'm pretty dubious that you'd find it in a library).

It's a graphic novel, which you don't mention as being something that you're interested in looking at, but yeah. Wow. Time to take a cold shower.

Came in to say Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey as well. Delicious storyline, set in an alternate past where sexual practitioners are trained and revered. Great trilogy (and goes on to 3 more books) with lots of sensual sex scenes. I reread all 6 about a year ago after about 10 years since first reading them and they were even better than I recalled.

If you liked 50 Shades and the Sleeping Beauty books, I think you'll also like The Story of O by Pauline Reage.

Response by poster: Thank you, everyone, so much for your input! I’m very excited to try them all. (And do keep the recommendations coming; I definitely can’t have too many!)

I’ve really enjoyed the little anecdotes that folks sometimes share, by the way. ;) Hope to have some of my own before long.

G.W. Dahlquist's "The Glass Books of the Dream Eaters". A long, meandering and erotically charged set of books. Miss Temple is a great character in particular.
