Non-loud metal shirts

I like my music loud, but not my fan shirts. Help me find subtle shirts for my favourite bands please.

I'm a metalhead. Female. And though I once wore pretty much only metalshirts all summer, I've toned it down in the past few years and sold a large chunk of my collection. Once you hit a certain age, I find a basic black shirt will do just fine. However, I sometimes do like to change it up a bit. But though I like my music loud, my shirts, not so much. Unfortunately most fanshirts seem to be designed for 16 year old dudes, who want to let the world know they're Very Metal. Please help me find better designs.

I found this Paradise Lost shirt (sold as 'Vintage') and this Amorphis one, which are both about what I'm looking for. Also, I see a trend in more shirts made for women (the horribly named 'Girlies') and though they tend to have a better print, they're usually made with girls in mind. I'm definitely a woman, and a tall one at that.

Some of my favourite bands: Opeth, Type O Negative, My Dying Bride, Solstafir, Moonspell, Fields Of The Nephilim, Agalloch, and lots more like it.

Please, metalheads of mefi, help me spend some money!

Look around Omega Order? For imstance, here is a tasteful Agalloch shirt.. I can't quite tell from your question whether the tshirt should be not-black, though. \m/ \m/

Earth, Sunn and Pallbearer all have very cool, low key merch.

You might try dyeing the entire shirt in RIT dye or similar...it won't completely obliterate a silk-screened design, but it will knock it down considerably... be sure to wash it separately/with similar colors for the first couple of washes afterwards. This is also handy for re-blackening faded black metal shirts.

I don't have an answer for you, but I have had this idea for a LONG time to start a merch company for metal bands that makes "simple" shirts. As in: White & Black with LOGO only - no photos, no dumb slogans, etc.

I love metal, but man, the shirts are a too much sometime.

If you're into metal culture in general, I'd recommend examining the options at Cvlt Nation. Less specific-band-oriented and more of a general metal aesthetic, with a variety of 'loudnesses' from Grimly Grim to Delicately Malevolent to Oh, Cult! It serves as a frontend to a bunch of different merch folk worldwide, so shipping can be a bear if you order three shirts from three different countries, tho.

Response by poster: Thanks everyone!

Rube R. Nekker, hadn't even realised both my examples were non-black. Wow, what are the odds. :-)
And punkrockrat, if you start your company let me know, we can partner up and/or I'll be your first customer.

It's tricky to stay abreast across all the various individual band sites, distros, and web stores. I did just get an email notification last night from Agalloch's Bandcamp page that they added a handful of shirt designs. For bands with a presence on that site, you might have a better chance finding a variety of designs updated more frequently.

It also doesn't help a handful of your favorite bands don't tour/tour so infrequently so they don't refresh the merch as often. Ask friends who go to major metal festivals to pick something up for you too as there's often a few vendors who sell t-shirts outside of the playing bands. Roadburn has had a few of your favorite bands play of late (Solstafir, Fields of the Nephilim, Paradise Lost, Opeth, John Haughm, etc.) and upcoming Eindoven Metal Fest as well as Netherlands Death Fest might have something you may like if you can swing around to that part of your country.

Apologies if this was obvious and unhelpful. Best of luck, I want you to wear some awesome designs too.
