Name that tune!

Can anyone identify this melody? (350 kB .WAV, whistled here)

In my head I can hear male vocalists and "metal lite" guitar chords. I think it may be the chorus of some popular anthem from within the past year or so. But if it isn't, I have plans for it!

Dammit, I know this melody, but it's escaping me at the moment. I think it's older than that, though - I keep getting a mental accompaniment of a techno-pop tune - something like Information Society but not quite...this is going to drive me batshit until I get it....

Sorry, TeamBilly. Maddening, id'nit? I'm hearing more of a Godsmack- or Creed-like (ugh) tune.

Still can't place it, but the more I think about it, the more it reminds me of a Duran Duran tune, but I can't explain why. If it turns out to be an original thought, let me know what you do with it. Because it IS a good line (especially for a chorus, I think) and love collaborating with people on music. I'm just sayin'....

It kind of sounds like Bad Medicine by Bon Jovi?

TeamBilly:

Y'know, Duran Duran did have a new release in the past year or so. I wonder...

Also, I e-mailed you a link to my tunes.

To me it sounds like Careless Whisper by Wham, especially the chorus: "and I'm never gonna dance again/ guilty feet have got no rhythm/ and i'm never gonna dance again/ the way I dance with you"

bDiddy: Close, but no cigar.

sarahnade: partial match, but not the one I'm hearing.

I immediately thought of Careless Whisper as well, but like you say, it turned out to be more of a partial match.

Can you come up with any lyrics at all? You hear male vocalists - what are they saying?

daveleck: I haven't a clue.

Is it The One Thing by INXS?

jrossi4r: no, it's slower and heavier than that.

Ah - I was thinking of "New Moon On Monday" (Duran Duran) which ain't it, but the second half of the line you're whistling is pretty congruent with "...and a fire dance through the night/ I've spent a cold day/with a lonely satellite..."

Come to think of it, it's slightly congruent with Bedroom Toys, too. Same band.

Maybe you really do have an original line here. I dunno.

Foo Fighters, maybe?

Did you try here? http://www.musipedia.org/search.0.html
not as much recent stuff, but you can whistle it and they will search based on that. (oh, and I hear mostly "Careless Whisper", too - but maybe a bit of something else, I get a slight grunge recollection - Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Pearl Jam?)

It made me think of the Careless Whisper cover that Ben Folds and Rufus Wainwright often do live. It's a lot like the original but with subtle changes in the melody. If you can't find a version online (it's everywhere) you can reach me at the email in my profile and I'll send you a copy, for evaluation purposes of course.

Hate to sound like a wiseass, but it might be more helpful to sing it as "dum-da-dumdum"s - the whistle (for me) throws off any hope of keeping in mind it's Creed-like. Seems to be right on the edges of my memory.

Probably not it, but I'm hearing bits of "Mad World" - the version I'm thinking of is by Tears for Fears, though there was also another version that was popular not too long ago from the Donnie Darko soundtrack.
