Confused Canadian seeks financial counsel

I'm a Canadian in the Bay Area. I don't know if I will eventually return to Canada or remain here in the U.S., and I'm trying to make some fairly simple financial decisions. Who can I talk to about the tax implications of investing in a 401k, buying American index funds, etc?

Do I want a lawyer? A financial advisor? Can you recommend a particular one? Extra points if they're BART-accessible and in either SF or the East Bay.

Thanks!

Can't comment on anything related to US taxation, but if an eventual return to Canada is a possibility, a call to CRA might be helpful.

As other people have noted in other Canadian tax AskMes (and I can say from my own dealings with them), CRA is super helpful and friendly. If your concern is, say, "I'm a non-resident Canadian planning on contributing to a 401k in the US - what are the tax implications if I return to Canada permanently in a few years and bring that with me?" they might be able to give you an idea of what you need to think about based on your residency status. For example, they could give you the up-to-date info on converting a 401k to an RRSP in the event you become a Canadian resident again.
