FireFox 43 Bookmarks Toolbar is now too long.

I have 22 bookmarks I use on a many times every day. It was SUPER convenient for me to have all of them (Favicons only) in my bookmarks toolbar at the top of my FireFox browser. Now after Firefox updated to the latest version, they are all Favicons+Titles, and spill off the side, making me have to search for the bookmark, killing productivity. How can I restore them to their former Favicon-Only goodness?

Thanks in advance!

I had a look in about:config and couldn't find anything, but there's a couple of addons that give you the option:
Roomy Bookmarks Toolbar
Multirow Bookmarks Toolbar Plus

You can right click on each to edit properties and simply clear the name (or use abbreviationsome or initials).

Best answer: You were probably using an extension to minimize the bookmarks. The problem is, every time Firefox updates, it disables extensions which aren't specifically compatible with the updated version. Sometimes extension developers get behind and sometimes they just forget to mark their extensions as compatible with the latest version, so it gets disabled (even if it would really work just fine--Firefox has no way of knowing and takes the safest route).

The best way to fix it is to update all of your extensions to a version that is compatible, type in about:addons into your location bar, go to the Extensions tab on the left, look for the little gear icon at the top right-ish of the page, click on it, and "Check for updates". Personally I'm using Roomy Bookmarks toolbar and there is a version which is compatible with the latest Firefox.

For many of the bookmarks on my toolbar that I use frequently, I edit the properties of bookmarks so that the "Name" is blank (rightclick on the bookmark>Properties). Then only the icon for the website shows, sans any website name. This saves lots of space, and also IMHO is more visually appealing, but requires that you know the appearance of the icon used for the bookmark for that site.

I am using 43 (on a mac) and have this same setup and I'm not seeing the favicons. I'm not totally sure which add-on or extension is doing it (I'll look around) but I want to let you know it's possible. Have you looked into Stylish at all to see if there's a favicon remover?

In 43, add-on signing turns off unsigned addons by default. Look in "about:addons" to see if one of them is now disabled. (Notably, yahoo toolbar).

I don't have a fix offhand, but me mail me the name and I can look into it tomorrow. Mozilla has a lot of people on vacation this week :)

Sorry this one is biting you :(

Ignore this if it doesn't help you, but I only use the Bookmarks Toolbar at work where we are discouraged from using Add Ons. At home I use the Speed Dial Add on which I find super convenient. Assuming you and I share a use case (open a new tab, click on where we want to go) Speed Dial allows you to have a configurable sized matrix of bookmarks with screen captures above each. You can also group them into tabs (like Research, On-line Shopping, Bill Paying, etc.) I have been using it for years and I am on FF 43 and it still works.
