Emmet Otter themed party

I'm throwing an Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas viewing party this holiday season, what must have items should I have to get into the spirit of the movie?

I will have mashed potatoes and barbecue, and might stop at my local cigar shop to pick up some boxes to decorate as banjo decor. What else could I do? It's one of my favorite movies and about half of my guests will be seeing it for the first time.

You must show this afterwards.

I know there are pumpkin pies mentioned in that show. All pies are good....really.

Maybe have a festive Christmas branch for the guests to decorate?

I was going to mention the outtakes reel - but someone beat me to it. :)

This sounds like a wonderful idea and I may steal it.

You need to get a washtub. Use it to keep drinks on ice.

(Best holiday party idea ever!)

I found this.
Fun!

Don't forget to serve cider, not wine. Also can you work snake oil in to anything?

Oh and Mr. WizardPants suggested a game where you try and pick up boots with a fishing rod somehow.

Anytime "Pa" is mentioned, take a drink. (My friends and I may, er, have an annual tradition of watching this at our end-of-year holiday party. Approaching the 20th anniversary of doing so!)

And don't put a hole in the washtub if you're going to be using it to hold drinks!

If you have time, a biker jacket/denim vest with "Riverbottom Nightmare Band" would be killer.

Stage a mini-talent show before the movie.

Get a bunch of washboards and kazoos and after the first viewing you can go back to some of the songs and everyone can play along.

Get a bunch of shirts dirty the same way and then have a contest to see who can get them the cleanest using a washtub and board.

Rowing machine contests.

In the spirit of the outtake, get a toy drum and see who can roll it the farthest/most accurately.

Get (or make!) some puppets and make a video of your puppets "singing" one of the songs (I was going to say lip-syncing to one of the songs, but I guess puppets always are lip syncing by definition).

Response by poster: Cider! Kazoos! Boots! These are great suggestions. I'm making a posterboard cutout that looks like the talent show stage to go around my tv, and recently took up knitting so I have a basket of knit caps to choose from as a holiday gift - just have to make some pom poms for them! Keep em coming, I'm having a fun time with this theme

Go get some remnant calico and make triangular bandanas/headscarves a la Ma.

COSTUME CONTEST. Anyone who shows up dressed like that fish in the bucket automatically wins.
