Is there time for an ancient mariner?

I have become ancient, but I am not a mariner. Is there still time to become one?

I've been working offshore for years now, in the oil industry. Unfortunately, the oilfield is in a nosedive, and though I've survived several rounds of layoffs, it's not looking good.

I like working offshore. Being at sea is nice, and I like mixing time at sea with time off.

I'm in my late forties. Is it really too late to try working my way into the maritime industry? If it's not too late, what would be an appropriate route? I've looked at trying to get my AB license, but I'm not really super familiar with maritime work outside the oil industry.

Help me figure out some options, please!
